ABOUT AMBASSADORS OF JESUS

CALLED TO SERVE
Lucien Almanord grew up in Haiti as the son of a Baptist pastor. At the tender age of ten, he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and immediately began preaching the Gospel, walking from house to house on Sunday evenings with an old oil lamp to hold evening services wherever he was welcome. Many, young and old, came to the Lord.

Lucien went into the Haitian Navy at age 18 and worked closely with American Navy personnel, where he learned English. He also attended seminary during this time. After fulfilling his military service, he was hired as a translator for missionaries. However, it didn’t take long for Lucien to again feel the Lord’s call to be an evangelist. He returned to the streets of Haiti walking around the country, holding revivals and leading countless people to Christ. Once, he was given permission by a voodoo priest to use his yard to hold a revival and more than 50 people, including the voodoo priest, were saved.

COMPELLED TO LOVE
One day, ten orphaned children of varying ages came to him and begged him to take them in. They lived in fear for, at that time, children were being used as human sacrifices in voodoo rituals. Even though Pastor Lucien lived in a single room mud hut, he knew he could not refuse and began to care for them as his own children even though some days none of them had anything to eat. At least they were together and not on the street. The Lord led Lucien to the city of Port au Prince, where he cared for the children and continued preaching. The hand of the Lord was continuing to bless his work. His ministry in Port au Prince grew and so did the number of orphans who came for refuge.

Pastor Lucien began to build an orphanage to accommodate all the children. Today, Pastor Lucien and his wife (who is terminally ill) raise 50 children at the orphanage on a very limited budget, and a tremendous amount of faith. Over the years, by no less than a miracle of God, more than 1000 children have been raised there and have gone on to live fruitful lives. As a result of Pastor Lucien’s obedience to God’s calling, all are educated, some are married, some are pastors and most send money to help support the needs of the ministry.

CONVEYING THE MESSAGE
The Ambassadors of Jesus Church in Port au Prince has a membership of over 500 people and Pastor Lucien has planted 16 other churches and pastors. These churches are in the mountains and jungle areas of Haiti and require as much as 13 hours of walking to reach.

All of this has been accomplished, by the Grace of God, without ever having a means of transportation. There is no public transit in Haiti. The children go to private schools and must walk as much as an hour each way. Even in an emergency, there is no way to transport children to the only hospital in Port au Prince. One child even died after a fall from a tree because there was no money for treatment or transportation.

This ministry operates solely on faith. The Children’s Home has received no financial support until recently when three churches in Brandon, Florida formed a partnership to send support to the ministry in Port au Prince, Haiti, for the first time. Praise be to God for showing us this great need and may we continue to see other churches join this partnership soon. Much more funding is needed for the orphanage andfor Pastor Lucien’s ministry to spread the Gospel and reach other orphaned children and needy families in villages throughout Haiti.
